How do the hagen and catalina 36" HO T5 dual 39w fixtures compare in terms of quality and such? Are they pretty much equal and should i buy whichever i can find cheaper?

Hagens are a POS fixture. cheap plastic buid, crappy reflector, NO SWITCHES to turn the lights on/off (this really pisses me off). Catalina is superior to Hagen in every way shape and form!

K thanks man ill go with the catalina

LOL very true.

wish this thread had happened earlier . . . :irked:

I bought a 24" Hagen GLO for my 15G planted tank a whiile back, and I haven't had any problems with it, although that whole On/Off switch thing was a real puzzle for me too (?!?)

figured I'd be okay with Hagen; oh well, live and learn . . .

haha im getting mad just thinking about it. i cant begin to understand what they were thinking when designing that fixture. good thing i got mine free in the MFK raffle at the socal meet. :naughty:

timer purposes I would guess. or maybe too cheap to install a $2 switch.

yup . . . light is on a timer, so it's no big deal . . . plants and fish seem to like it just fine . . . maybe not the best, but I'm not kicking myself too hard over it . . . ;)

I have exactly that light Hagen Glo 36" double on my 40. No switch on the light is the only bad thing about it. It does come with a timer your suppose to plug into so you shouldn't need a switch. The timer has an on/off switch on the side of it. Its just a pain to have to reach under the stand to get to it LOL. I like the light its got Icecap type ends that seal out moisture from getting in. Another thing I don't like is it doesn't come with any bulbs. For the price you can find a cheaper double HO fixture on ebay.

Does anyone have experience with fishneedit.com lights? Not for my planted tank but im looking into one of their four bulb t5Ho fixtures for a nano reef
