So im trying to catch 3 of the tinfoil barbs that are in the 270 to try to give the other residents some more space to grow. I lowered the water about 2/3 full and attempted to try to net them. Vatf wasnt having any of this and kept jumping hitting the lids.... so i stopped and filled the tank back up bc i dodnt want him to injure himself.

What has worked the best for you guys when trying to catch other fish in the same tank as a vatf or any other tigerfish for that matter?

2 options that I can see, 1 be MUCH more patient, there's no reason to be thrashing about, hang your arm/net in there for long enough for them to calm down then gently try and get them up to the glass and net, a decent sized net would help.

Or if you really are finding it impossible couldn't you just lower the water right down so they are partially beached then whip the 3 out and fill back up again quickly?

Add a dose of Stress Coat before doing anything, though.

I always try to calmly net fish out but tin foil barbs are fast and atf get freaked out over nothing thats why its such a pain..... i might try putting in a divider.......or just lowering the water way low

I feel your pain, I had the same issue with a pacu!

If all else fails. You could net out the vatf then net out the damn tiger barbs. Readd vatf shut off lights for rest of the day.

Good advice above. Also, the larger the net, the easier and quicker the catching would go.

If you have any tank dividers, section off the tinfoils from the rest. Then net those speedy buggers out - I did that with my ATF comm; netting 5 very small but fast monos that were harassing my lung fish. :)
