Try to get some pics for ID, I often keep local fish but very of them will do well in a tropical tank, if we can ID them we might be able to tell you if they will work or will need an unheated tank.
When keeping wild caught fish a quarantine period, preferably in salted water, is needed, sometimes you also need to deworm them.
Do they look like this? These are Lepomis humilis (orangespotted sunfish) and are native to Colorado, they don't get very big (about 6") and can adapt to temps in the low 80s F., so will work in many tropical tanks. They are fiesty and eat very small fish but are not as aggressive as some of the other sunfish.
