i tried a minnow trap made from a 2 l cola bottle but it did not work

im on a low , very low budget

so any ideas thanks fraser

Traps are pretty useless unless you have a specific target and a whole lot of time. A small seine (4' x 4') usually costs under 10 U.S. dollars.

useless? i have the 8 doller variety about 18 inches and i can fill it up in 20 mins. go to my local creek were the hole is and put dog food in it throw it out and sit. easy

I guess if you don't care what you catch then that's fine. Most here want to actually sample a stream and discover as many species as possible in a given stream. I can do this is 1/10 the time and 10 fold volume with a seine over any legal trap you can use.

Have you ever used a seine?

Butterfly net?:naughty:
shrimp net,but ya about the same thing.

shrimp net is a round net on a 6' pole.
throw bread by the minnows and while there eating scoop them up.
or just scoop in grass and water plants.

or an umbrella net.
in my diy thread below i made some good bait bags for my umbrella net.
this setup works the best to get minnows for me. ;)

Not all Minnows Like bread...

I have an 8' cast net. I go to a marina dock, throw some bread in, throw the net over a feeding frenzy of sunfish and minnows and I'm set.
