catching minnows

i used the bottle and it worked for me,but only small fish.i think the net method works much better,i actually caught my first native using the net method(brown bullhead).in my experience fish will explore or tatse anything i throw in the water.can i catch a fish with a hook and then keep it,or is not a legal way or something.

ok,so like in my diy bait bags thread.
fill one with bread and the other with ham.
or do minnows not like ham too?

I've used cheap, stinky catfood with some success.
