Well, I'm trying to get some small (4ish inches) sunfish and a few rockbass for my 55 gallon, I'm going to grow them up with my green sunny and move them to the pond I am building over summer. I am in central Illinois and I want to know if it would be easier to net them in a creek or catch them on a rod, and if so what bait should I use?

they are easy to catch even swim directly into a hand held net if you lay food ontop of it

Try being 32 and your wife has to drive you to pet stores because anything further than 20 miles away you get lost coming back . Now that sucks

I am horrible with directions its always been a problem. I have lived here over a year now and still get lost.

It took me about 10 yrs to know NY (I lived there till 30). when I dated before getting married .I was only able to date within a 20 mile radius or would get lost never got to their house.

Here I know within a 10 mile radius of the house fish local lakes, canals go to local areas outside of that lost . For a person bad with directions this place can be brutal at least NY the steeets were in order this place uses names like Coral than it can go like Coralway-CoralGables-Coral,etc its brutal.

If your ever in Miami and see a convertible Cooper with fishing rod sticking out the back and person is throwing out dry kernels of corn as they drive to use as navigation on the way back its me.

i think it'd be easier to net them in a creek. i'm pretty sure that netting is illegal in some states tho, so just check your regulations before doing so.
hope this helps!

there ya go read on :D

not sure what a "dip net throw line" is tho lol
but that you can use :grinno:

and castnets seine nets scoop nets are for bait only "it looks"

i hate how they word laws :D

Bluegill in Illinois are considered "Sprot Fish". they can only be take by legal device. Legal Device depends on the Water you are fishing on. There is a Lake chart in the book to tell you the restriction. Here is what you need to know:

2 POLE AND LINE FISHING ONLY means
2 poles with no more than 2 hooks or
lures per line (these can be rods with reels)

ON WATERS WITHOUT THE 2 POLES AND LINES FISHING ONLY means
up to 50 hooks in total may be used legally on devices permitted
under a sport fishing license. Legal devices include: bank
poles and lines, dip nets, throw lines, trot lines, buoyed devices (jug
fishing), gigs, spears, bow and arrow, and bow and arrow devices.
No more than two untagged sport fishing devices (no more than 50
hooks total) under the angler
’s immediate control are allowed. Each
legal device more than two, up to 50 hooks total, must be tagged with

the angler
’s name and address.

What isn't printed is that you can only have 2 rods with reels on any water. you can have up to 48 bank poles if you wanted on waters without 2 pole limits, but only 2 with reels (bank poles don't have reels).

"Throw Line" is a line and hook with no rod.

You can NEVER use any kind of net to catch a game fish, only bait. I know it says Dip Net under waters without 2 pole limits but Under Dip nets it says: Such equipment may not be used within 100 feet of a dam or to take game fish.
