Catching the little bastardo

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
GAH! I found two of the bastards now. Damn cichlids and their damn tendency not to live in shells when they are supposed to!

I don't know if a huge water change would be that good, since I just added new fish yesterday....I hate to ask, but how much damage will these damn shellies do to my cories in the meantime as I try to get them out?

ok now this may sound :screwy: but may I ask what it is your trying to catch and why they need to leave so badly. Im not well versed in this area i guess

I shall share my story with you as to my experienec today. I got this GRAND idea that I would rearrange some of my fish in the tankz today. So I decided to move my pbass and Crenicichla sveni to my 75gal from the 125gal...and move my three Crenicichla 'mystery' pikes to the 125gal from the 75gal....as well as move my four Sataneoperca jurupari from their 20gal grow out to the 125gal with the pikes. So all in all, i was moving 9 fish in total.

First off lemme bring it to ur attention that I was doing this with a net that was starting to fall apart....by the time I had FINALLY caught the pbass and moved it the net was not lookin as perky as before. The pbass was the first fish i caught. Very annoying to catch him, but i prevailed and was able to catch him without having to gut the tank. NOT SO WITH THE PIKE CICHLID! Lemme just say now that catching pike cichlids is a *****!! They are fast, smart, and REALLY FREAKIN FAST! I spent almost a half an hour trying to catch one pike...even after completely guttin my 125gal! OY!! Finally caught her though, and moved her. NEXT came the OTHER THREE pikes. They were just as aunry and I had to gut the 75gal compeletly as well. After another 45minutes of chasing them around i was finally able to catch all three and transport them....by now though the concrete around my tankz is thoroughly saturated from water being splashed around....and I am very very wet. GRRR! The jurupari were a joke! Easy as pie, no problem at all from them. Oh well, at least I got an opportunity to rearrange my tank decor, although i just wanted to move the fish. SO my little bit of info is....If you have pike cichlids....put them in the tank you want them in for life cuz it reallly really sucks to move them!!

Wellp, I finally did just drain the tank down 90%, removed all the decor save the planted bulbs, and spent a half hour chasing the little bastards. They're now sitting in a Thirstbuster cup, and will go to the zoo tomorrow. ;) Perhap in the back area created by rockwork in Lake Tang, or with the piranhas...
