People get freaked out about putting natives with tropicals, bbut with sunfish atleast there is no reason you can, other than temprement. They do fine at low tropical, or room temps year round, and do not need a cool down unless you want to breed. Temprement does need to be considered, but just like cichlids sunfish are individuals so it just depends. It might work, it may not. I say go for it, but with a back up plan in the case it doesnt. Putting the native fish back is not a back up plan. Sunfish are great though, youll like them.

I've only owned one sunfish in a tank that was not meant to be a feeder. It was a mean ass redbreast that killed my black crappie and almost killed my pickerel. I decided If it wanted to be aggressive, I'd put it with my other aggressive fish. I put it in my 1500 gallon pond with my 20+ inch largemouth which made a nice meal out of it. It was a very cool fish with beutiful colors and a strong personality. It was just an ***hole.

The shape of sunfish and sevs are too close: you're asking for aggression issues.

Mixing (wild) native fish and tropicals is a bad idea for any number of reasons.

Well someone forget to tell that to the sunfish and cichlids in southern United States. You can find both fish in same spot. Sunfish will be fine with the cichlids.

I have 6 Longear sunfish in a 220 with 5 Salvinis, 3 Green Terrors, 1 Convict, 2 Trimac's and several catfish, no issues. They all chase, etc. just as you would normally see. All the fish are mostly the same size with the Trimac's being the biggest.

thanks, my next question, what is good parasite medicine, that possibly a big box would carry, i can order offline but i have no problem with a quick buy.

Also, qt is the time to convert it to pellets.....unless you're planning on feeding it live forever.

thanks for all info, if it doesnt work I have the 475 soon with big agressives it can fit in or become food
