Catching wild fish as feeders. Good for us, Bad for fish?

Also, as an extra preventive you could feed them crushed garlic cloves. They kill parasites quickly and is easily accessible.

We don't eat the entire fish such as the inestines, etc were the parasites might be.

I'm thinking freezing might be good to do first possibly.

Eat raw fish? By the time a fish is cooked or frozen, it is guaranteed almost safe from possible parasites. Of course, some such as puffers and porcupines are another thing. They have toxins that are tricky to remove so be careful what you are trying to eat.;)

all very good points. i asked because i often go to my fav. lake and stream near my house to catch swordtail, cons, and tilapias for my fish to eat. problem is, i just turned my old feeder quarantine tank into an exodon tank.

and quarantining fish also means you have to change their water, filters, feed them, and maintain them until they can be fed which is starting to become equally expensive. not to mention, if i start running out of fish, putting more into the tank means i have to wait even longer before they are food worthy.

but if i can feed them right off the bat if i froze them, that eliminates having to care for the feeders, feeding etc. and they can just be held in a stock in my fridge.

I just caught a bucketful of minnows today and I plan to to treat them with coppersafe just as I do my store bought feeders. In your case they should be fine once you freeze them.
