Catfish help?

Hi guy's I have a small catfish (not sure what type) at only a couple of inches; I've had him for a couple of month now and up until last week he would never come out of his little pot, he sat there all day long! However the past week he will not go in his pot, instead he hangs out on the filter just flapping, what's up with him? Has he just became very used to his surrounding or do I need to act?

i think he might be a synodontis i dont know the species but i have a syno eupterus and thay like to hide does your catfish have spots and if he does wat color is the fish.
