Catfish ID please

Can anyone ID this catfish? I bought him at Walmart when he was only an inch long...now he is 6" in our 10 gallon goldfish tank... I would like to put him in the 55 gallon African Cichlid tank that I am starting but dont know if he will be alright with them or not. Any idea on what type of catfish I have here?

Your catfish is a synodontis eupterus.

im not sure but i had that same type in with my piranha's but they got sick of him one day and totally skinned him... :-(

he looks nice but move him quick!!

Yep Synos are good with Africans. They can reach a foot in length though. And a 10g is WAY too small for Goldfish.

Agreed, fine with the africans but he will eat any spawns.

I did'nt know S.Eupterus grew that large.Mine is about the same size he says his is and it's been that size for a few years now.Do it a favor and get it out of that ten gallon.

I need to make sure that I dont lose him in the transition to the 55 gallon. I need to get my water in the 10 gallon adjusted accordingly before I put him in the 55 but I have no idea where to start. Suggestions?
