idk im very intentive to my tank so i never have an issue cycling my tank..but what kzimmerman and darth schon are right tho...
especially being new to the hobby fishless cycling is the safest way to cycle ur tank just not the fastest.. i just know that fish wastes and plant detrius produce toxins and bacterias which in turn produce good bacs at a faster rate...

There are 4 goldfish and 6 tetras in the 10 gallon....I will be doing a fishless cycle in the 55 according to these instructions http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207575

I will use all fake plants and natural rock for hiding

That works and as said set up the 55gal cycle it, than add fish I disagree with fish cycling as it puts the fish in dangerous toxin levels....And BTW how many goldfish do you have in that 10gal?

Hi, Don't know what type of catfish it is but we have one in a tank with 2 oscars, green terror, severum, convict, torpedo barb, frontosa and a cuple of plecs, lived together for over a year no problems they seem to like a hide and come out more at night? or our one does.
They are quite funny things to watch always rushing around!!

yeah...so I came home the other day and my wife bought a big puffy eyed black goldfish...not sure who but someone in the tank is attacking him....his tail is shredded and he has some loose scales....the water is all cloudy and smells now....I will be doing a 50% water change tomorrow. If he infects the tank and kills my catfish I will be a tad bit upset.

Not true:screwy:
Goldfish create a large bioload, but so do Cichlids. Especially when they are in a 10g like the OP has them in :screwy:
