Cole, I wonder if that confiscation was a single event, meaning that particular importer didn't have the right paperwork/licenses/etc. and was not a result of a federal or local import ban. Not saying you are wrong but just thinking aloud... reading a regulating federal document would help.
Giant Mekong is almost extinct in the wild, hence the heavy CITES protection. Only now they starting to be available from successful farming efforts. The origin (as with Asian aros) must be proven to legally import them.
ATM, I am not aware of the ban on either paroons or giant mekongs, either import or keeping.
