It's really a bummer that he lost legal fish because the feds are too stupid to properly identify a fish.

Agreed, but then again I'm glad that they are illegal to import because paroons are fish that aren't meant to be in aquariums. I mean, an 8' open water catfish.

some reason im guessing that the fish arent illegal.. but they wherent legally imported and thus the confiscation. either way they are likely to have a much smaller mortality rate where they are.
I just looked it up. They are recognized as a different species then giant mekongs but because of their similarities they are both illegal to keep. So apparently not just import.

Cole, I wonder if that confiscation was a single event, meaning that particular importer didn't have the right paperwork/licenses/etc. and was not a result of a federal or local import ban. Not saying you are wrong but just thinking aloud... reading a regulating federal document would help.
Giant Mekong is almost extinct in the wild, hence the heavy CITES protection. Only now they starting to be available from successful farming efforts. The origin (as with Asian aros) must be proven to legally import them.
ATM, I am not aware of the ban on either paroons or giant mekongs, either import or keeping.
