You got some eye. I see a woodcat in it but not so much a pim. What pim traits do you see, apart from the pim-like adipose fin?

If this is indeed a hybrid, it's a pity Necrocanis is missing this. He'd be jumping out of his skin excited, I am sure (albeit I generally don't delight in people playing gods).

Well if you took its head off its pretty much pim, dorsal, adipose and caudal look pim, cant really tell in pic's but cant see any sexual organs in anal fin, but could be female, head and eyes look Auchenipteridae but the long barbels again look pim. :)

Oh and i'm with you on the hybrid thing, cant stand man made fish and would never spend a penny on them.

I'll try next time I get up there...it is a little bit of a trip so I'm not there too much. I did try to talk them into selling it but it was a no go

I wonder why George won't sell. Is it because he knows they are very special / rare / one of the kind?

On another note, Jools says he will speak to George directly (see the PCF thread). But IME George is easy to catch when he is at the store but he can also be very hard to reach sometimes. His employees characterize him as a "free spirit", FWIW :)

Ahh I have missed so much!!! lol. What a beauty! I would have bought it just to have it and raise it. You want to know my honest opinion? Auchenipteridae x pangasius!!!! lol The reason I love hybrids is how much it makes your mind go wild with possibilities. Man isn't the only one creating hybrids A recent evaluation of eastern coyotes, the red wolf, eastern canadian wolf, and gray wolves was very interesting. Lots of hybridization going on in the wild. As we begin to understand DNA more and more it is astonishing how much intermixing of species is actually found in the wild, and it can be dated also. They can do math to figure out at what point in natural history genes from a speperate species actually polluted the gene pool. Turns out that hybridization may have had more to do with evolution than we ever thought possible. So some concerns are right. People who make and own hybrids need to be very diligent to ensure they never escape or are allowed to breed with wild populations. I love seeing new catfish hybrids. They always amaze me how far they can blur the lines of what is thought possible of hybridization.

could also be some hybrid of pim x pang as well.

Necro, I am happy-jumping out of my skin excited to see you back!

Per the PCF thread I linked above on the same topic: Jools got the fish from George http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=40900#p278354

All we know is that six of these were imported from Brazil a year or two ago and that this is the single remaining one.

It's quite small for a pim hybrid out of Brazil. The mouth and eyes do look unusual, but I wonder if it's just an obscure pimelodid that's not commonly photographed.

Cheers,

Jools"
