I was in my lfs the other day and saw a cat I just had to have. It was labeled "galaxy wood catfish". I needed a fish to help clean up some of the leftovers in my tank, they said he would be fine with my other fish, so I bought him. But I can't find any info on "galaxy wood catfish" online. Does anyone know this catfish by another name? I would post a pic but I'm not sure how to do that with my iPhone.

I can't say without a picture but what type of cat family does it look like it's a member of? could be in Auchenipteridae which is the "wood catfish family" or possibly a doradid or loricariid.

here it is. it looks like the tatia galaxias, I was told that his spots would come in when he was settled in, but mine is much more shy than those, and he wont move unless you physically touch him. he also seems sensitive to bright lights, and hides in the dark.

Almost all wood cats are strictly nocturnal; need a tight hiding spot; usually appreciate the Co of their own kin. Please read their profiles and in general for Tatia's too.

Excellent! Please do come back with updates and pics every now and then! :) I may be mistaken but all/almost all tatias love to be in a school. I'd get at least 6.

6 eh? darn. the shop only had the one. i suspect he was a return. I really don't have the space for six of these bad boys either. i used to do a lot of fishing for catfish and made the educated guess that he would act a lot like those texan cats; hide in a hole, come out in the dark, eat all the leftover food found in the tank (mostly little chunks of earthworm that my fire eel leaves behind, as well as some algae wafers and flakes) and be content. i did a quick google search in the store but couldnt find anything on them, as i said earlier. my tank is only 55 gallons, i planned on get a 200 or 300 when my fire eel needed it in a few years. I really dont have the space for six of these bad boys riight now however. he was supposed to be the finishing piece to the fish i cuurently have stocked.
