just ordered a 6-8 inch channel catfish, silver/grey to hang out with the oscars when i get the tank up, should be a good tank mate, thats why i ordered a larger one. does anyone have any tips for keeping the cat, pool filter sand bottom, 75g tank, do they need hiding spots? would a homemade cave work for them from pvc with rocks glued to it, any suggestions would be appreciated

Caves would be a must-the little experience I have with these cats is that they are very active even in the day and eat a lot=ofcourse I had an albino but only for a few months.

i would not put that with your oscars. i had one with two idk 8 or 9 inch oscars in an 85 gallon and all was good for a long time then i wake up one morning and one oscar is dead and the other was beaten so badly that he died and hour later. by the way i feed them really well and i dont think that it was coused by the cat being hungry just an evil fish in my mind.

was plannind on building my own cave out of pvc or something, it should turn out good, and will probably point the power head towars the cave

i was told that they were not too aggressive, more calm than the red tail asian i was thinkin of getting, if i see they are not getting along, i will move him to a different tank, the oscars come first

well good luck i hope everything works out for.

if the oscars come first then dont put the cat with them, or dont leave it with them once it is 75% there size. and a channel cat will get way to big for a 75 gal. would be fine as long as it was quite a bit smaller than the oscars but once its 75% there size move it to a pond.
IMO

:iagree: Once the cat nears the size of your oscars then they are in danger of being lunch.

catfish can generally eat things almost the same size as there head. being a channel cat its head is the largest part of its body, and can easily get the size of the Oscars.
