This summer i planned on setting up a kiddie pool (http://www.amazon.com/INTEX-RECREATION-58472E-Jungl-Snapset/dp/B00004YTPS/ref=pd_bbs_sr_6/102-7608324-2292103?ie=UTF8&s=hi&qid=1175036405&sr=8-6) (its suppose to be like 550 gallons) for a large/medium catfish and maby some smaller fish to keep the mosquitoes down :) . I would bring it in during the winter and house it in that same pool in the house. So could i possibly put a catfish in there (i was thinking a channel cat, though not sure if that pool is deep enough)? if not what would be the smallest fish tank/indoor pond i could build for it.

Thanks!

channel cats get quite large and are suprisingly strong fish. that pool just does not look strong enough to hold the C cat. it will more than likely puncture the side of the pool. look for a lerge rubbermaid tub. it will be deeper and much thicker for strength

do some bullheads..

bullheads are really neet but you more than likely dont have a chance of getting them in alaska you would have to order them from a hatchery. they live all over the us, and some parts of canada you just live to far north. channels are commonly sold in petstores. I would go with one of them, stone cats are good small cats for ponds and tanks but again you might be to far north.

could try to find speckled cats. neat little bullheads that don't get too too big. might be able to find em up around there.

Im not sure if we even have catfish up here in alaska :( . Does anyone know any online stores that stock any type of bullhead or stone cats? I tried looking some up but none of the hatcherys i found shipped to alaska (allthough i found plenty of places for channel cats)

Bull heads are cool, but if you like channels I'd say go for em. Get a albino or two they are pretty active and get descent sized. I'd say just start out with a rubbermaid tub instead of a kiddie pool. It should be a lot stronger and more durable.
