Hi guys i'm looking to add 2 interesting catfish to my collection. I've read up in the net but i would like to know more. Especially with regard to how these fish are in the aquarium. Preferably from those who keeps/kept them:)

These fishes are the Laulao, Brachyplatystoma Cf. Vaillantii (if im not mistaken) and the Pati, Luciopimelodus Pati (again, if im not mistaken)

Thanks in advance:)

Boss, tbtb, can i get positive ids with these guys?:l

Im really considering getting them because i've never seen them sold here before and might never see them again. Also im stoked bout getting a new tank and they could be the first inhabitants:) i hope we get some guys to share info as well.

Wow! Two of some of the rarest IME fishes in the hobby. Pati is ID'ed correctly for sure. Vaillantii also looks right, esp. if it has or develops later a streamer off the upper caudal lobe.

If you have a firm plan on how to house them adequately for their lifetime, I'd not hesitate a moment.

Same with the fila although I hope you are aware of the fila vs capa debates (e.g., here on MFK) and the ID tips - it is quite far from trivial.

Piraibas grow very slow.

If you want a paraiba, like furious said they do grow slow but as far as my knowledge goes they are the largest cats in South American and you better have a few thousand gallons to house an adult IMO.

True piraiba don't grow slowly. B. Capapretum grow slowly and stay much smaller, B. Filamentosum grow very quickly and get very large. Necro has sited studies that state 3' in the first six months is possible for filamentosum.

Though, i dont see myself getting a piraiba just yet.
