True piraiba don't grow slowly. B. Capapretum grow slowly and stay much smaller, B. Filamentosum grow very quickly and get very large. Necro has sited studies that state 3' in the first six months is possible for filamentosum.

Pretty awesome fish. But i cant afford a 3' along with the two im planning to get anytime soon. My ponds are preoccupied with my large cats and some.

And i just dont see myself selling a fish i bought. Never did, hopefully, will never do.

I think I recall the same info (~3'-4' in year one) and other fila keepers saying the same or repeating after Necro.

Seems awesome but it'd be nice if the fila keepers (who know their stuff and know they have a fila, not capa) confirm this from their experience.

Also, don't remember if this is captive or wild numbers or both.

Does anyone know what Fugupuff says about this?

Untrue, necrocanis study was people talking about wild fish. Look at the thread on here called "piraiba pictures" it is so slow growing and is one of THE best examples of a true filamentosum i have seen.

There's a guy in Germany who had/has a large Vaillanti. His name is Rico, on the german Forum he's on his screen name is Brachyplatystoma, don't know if it's the same here but he is definately a member ;)

Have you read this thread by Tyjo?

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...9-Piraiba-pictures&highlight=piraiba+pictures the thread you mention is about Tyjo's fish which has been established by all qualified, first and foremost Fugupuff, to be a capa, not fila.

As QUOTED by necrocanis on that EXACT thread!

It seems there are studies that suggest that filamentosum can reach 30" in just six months. I have not found the exact study yet, but it is quoted in a few places. Either there is something missing from what we are doing as keepers or something is off with this study. I haven't heard of anyone having one and it growing more than .5 to 1" a month in the first year.

I see. Thanks. It'd be most helpful and kind of you to first link the thread and also state the page or a post # at least. That thread is 17 pages after all.

Second, I am not convinced that Necro is not talking about filas vs capas. Wrong ID - that could be that something missing that he is talking about.
