Catfish recommendations for 48 * 12 tank?

I am looking for a catfish that can live its whole life in a 48" * 12" tank (55 gallon)

Prefer species that is somewhat active but not too active that it will disturb bichirs..


stock is: White Spot Pike cichlid, Jack Dempsey, 3 Senegal Bichirs
cichlids are below 4 inches while bichirs are 5-6 inches

hoplo catfish maybe. they get like 6"-8" max, are active and very people friendly. my friend hand fed his all the time.

Synodontus species, tough but not overtly aggressive, and you may even see it in the day time.

A pictus cat might work! They stay small enough for a 55 and they're pretty active which is what may help to keep them safe from the jack. He may not be able to catch em normally.

I'd go either hoplo or pictus

I've known many problems to occur with pictus and jacks. I'd go hoplo or one if the more medium sized synodontis catfish.

Yellow Bullhead, or a stonecat Noturus flavus they get 12inches long and can live 7yrs they are only semi-aggressive but can defend themselves against cichlids of the same or smaller size.....and they love driftwood (which IMHO looks good in any tank).

gulper catfish? if your cichlids harass it too much, it will eat them?
