i generally always go with a tight line. it alows me to see the bites faster and react quicker. i have caught just about every kind of fish in my state with this method and it takes some getting used to but, it is the best way.

do you have anything with a bait clicker or bait runner? If not, use circle hooks and invest in good bank rod holders.

This was one of the first trips I went on that I tightlined so youre right, I'll get better with more practice!

imo bait clickers are good, but circle hooks are not. you'll find people that swear by circle hooks, and people like me that find no use for them. try it for yourself and see. if you can fish multiple lines put a circle hook on one and a octopus hook on the other. then see witch you prefer. rod holders are nice, but all you'll need is a "y" stick and a big rock. put the rock on the handle of the rod to wedge it into the "y" stick. many many years i have done this and i have only just got rod holders and some fish have been lost due to the rod holder holding to well.

The rock trick does work just make sure it's sitting on there good. I lost a rod to this one time. My bank rod holders only cost $5 though so just shop around. I also don't like circle hooks but if you don't have a bait runner and fishin a locked spool, I'd use those in a holder holder. If you had a clicker, I prefer to let it run and set the hook.

the heaver swivel the better. i dislike fluorocarbon it burns to easy on me and i have it break at the knot. but that is due to my error and i just dont trust it any more.

i would not use any kind of leader, i think you are referencing a leader as a swivel. i am taling about using barrel swivels. making a "leader" from the barrel swivel to your hook out of seperat line. not an actuall pike/muskie leader though.
