Catfish royal rumble?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ime...its the largest trying to eat the others...or a common sized/match up fight between two. Day in the life with a cat pond, it comes and goes. Usually my "mediums" of a large cat group fight the most.

Most of the wounds endured by my large catfishes over the years have always been tail, pec fins, and the other fins. Seems usually territorial or aggression disputes. My 24" Sperata aor finally felt the wrath of his aggression. Must have bitten one of the other catfish in the pond and bam got a pec fin spine into his gut. Died shortly after. Too bad the Sperata was quickly becoming one of my favs. Big eater, fast grower, doesn't take crap from any other fish.

Whats the pond size and dimensions?

The bigger the enclosure, the exponentially less the aggression. Also, IME, keeping some light at night will reduce the aggression.

That's a unique and big collection with too many possibilities to say anything. Some cats are not well known here to say much at all.

Necro, sorry to hear about the aor. I loved reading your thread on it. Sure you'll update when the time comes.

I really think its territory based aggression as well or someone is just being a d*ck among them:/

From the list of fish I would say the Wallago Leeri or RTC. Just because a fish has damage doesn't mean he hasn't been fighting. Normally there is damage from both sides due to competing for territory. Turn off the lights and watch and I bet you find the culprit.

Ill try to install underwater cams tonight and run it for a couple of hours. Leerii is my 2nd suspect:)

I agree with the night light. I Should've done it when they came in:(

Around 10x10x4(deep) and i thought a pond that big would be tough to stock:/

At what point do you become concerned enough to separate some of them?

My wels and rtc have been going back and forth, I've never had such an even matchup but when the wels was about 3/4 the size of the rtc it decided it had enough. I couldn't believe it bc it was still quit a bit smaller but after a couple weeks it had been whipped back into place. Now the wels has been going ham on the rtc and its getting freaking intense. I'm worried they're going to bust a seam or something.
