In search of Leiarius
The cats I already have are in my sig, I would also like to house with these catfish an albino Ictalurus punctatus I would like to house all five of them permanetly in one tank for their long lives.

My questions are:

-Is my 300 gallon rubbermaid big enough for this?

-If Not what is big enough?

Thank You in advance.

The channel catfish can get HUGE!!! I think the biggest one I saw in person was about 3.5 feet long and much larger than a basketball in girth. A 300 gallon rubber maid wouldn't be enough for these beasts. I guess they can get close to 60 lbs.

Sounds like Planet catfish needs to update their info on them, they have its size listed as the same as megaladoras.

Looked at fish base and it seem s that they can max out at 4.4 feet but a common size for them is just over 2 feet.
Why such a big diference in common and max size?

Some catfish are a great example of indeterminate growth, they grow until they die. In contrast, human grow have determinate growth and reach their max height as they reach adulthood. An old catfish has had years to continually grow, so they can get extremely large. However, most fish don't live long enough to reach this size. Water quality and nutrition also have a lot to do with it.

I'm not sure why planet catfish is so off on many of the monstrous catfish. It may have to do with what statistics they decide to use.

Yah the age thing does explain it. Forgot about fish always growing.
