I would like to have some kind of catfish in my bichir tank. I have read the synos may suck the slime coat. I have a couple in another tank. One is a feather fin, one is an ocellifer and I'm not sure of the other one. Would any of these work? How commen is it for synos to suck slimecoat? Lastly any suggestions would be great! I would like them to max out at around 10-12" if you have any ideas.

my experience of feather fin: they are mean and territorial. i might have just have an exceptional one, but i don't know. just an additional info on how mean he is, he sucked on my live school of angel fish and killed them one by one.
It will depend on the individual. Some Syno will just ignore ganoid scaled fish while other have the taste for the slime. If the syno is well feed then it will ignore the rasping on the slime of the bichir.
My featherfin is the most aggressive for sure. They all seem to leave the ropefish I have in their tank alone. Not sure if that would be the case with with a larger bodied bichir though. I think I will try putting the most timid of the three with the bichirs and keeping an eye on him. I am also interested in the dwarf giraffe cat that is in the primer are those very hard to come by? Do you think my lfs could special order one for me?

A friend of mine had hers eaten by bichirs smaller than a full grown endli. So I don't think so long term.
