I have a 125 w an Oscar a Jag a polleni and 9 silver dollars. I want to add something different from cichlids and also that will eat wasted food from the bottom. I want to go w a catfish and stay away from plecos. Anybody have any suggestions as far as cats? I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon so it would have to live in a 125 for a while.

Someone told me an Oscar will try to eat a pictus and most likely die trying w spines stuck in its throat. Also info I forgot to add all of my fish are mature already besides the polleni. The Oscar is about 9-10" and the jag is about the same. The polleni is maybe 5-6". I recently swapped substrates from rock to sand and now notice all the food being wasted. I don't over feed and the silver dollars catch a lot but just not all of it.

My 2 oscars are with a 6-7" sun catfish and never even pay any attention to him even when he comes out to eat. I don't think Oscars like the taste of Catfish lol

If your worried about the cats getting eaten go with a 4line around 5-6 inches. Mine have survived jags and oscars all in 12-13 inch range and four lines are in general a larger fish than a pictus

Just an fyi . I got a pictus for my 100gal with my oscar and jag as well. The jag tortured him until he had no fins so I gave him back to the store. I think the jag is what you need to worry about not the oscar. Unless of course the catfish is small enough to be eaten then its gonna happen. Just my experience

Thanks everyone. I was more worried about the Oscar cause he's the tank boss and always out and about whereas the jag hides a lot. She does come out but she likes her cave. Someone mentiond featherfinnsynos to me I did like their look. The ones at my Los are all about 3-4" though. Any thoughts. The sun cats were w decent size but they just don't spark my fancy lol

Agreed. Oscar only pick on things that they think they can eat, once they realize they can't they pretty much ignore them.
