I think I might try my luck with an arius graeffei

First time I have ever gone to my local pet store and there hasn't been any :(

I got one

hi..

is arius graeffei common name salmon catfish? at what level brackish have you got it?

wats the highest level can they tolerate?

Im in the same predicament.. I have a brackish tank at 1.016 or 1.018.. i wanted a catfish to put in.. currently have a banded puffer which will grow to 15cm or so.

or the other option as you have discussed prior is tandanus cat...

I guess my question is.. what is the highest SG that each catfish could take

I tried the salmon catfish once but didnt last very long.. maybe i didnt acclimatise him very well.. bought him from freshwater ... then dumped him in brackish!

One cat that may go well with your archer is the armored catfish callichthys, callichtys. It is a south american cat from brackish rivers.I believe grows to about 7".

I have an Archer with a columbian shark, and a 24" snowflake morray in a 55 everyone gets along fine. What did you end up going with to take care of the clean up? Ive been looking for something to use but everything ive put in has just turned into dinner.

I don't know what kind of snail it is, but I have small snails all over the place in my tank. A buddy of mine had a 20 gal BW setup that he had introduced snails into for his puffer, but when the puffer went belly up he took the tank apart and I inherrited his bumblee gobies, and aparently the snails as well. As far as clean-up they are so so. My tank is fed shrimp & salmon that I but from the store and freeze until use. What doesnt get eaten the snail swarm over but do not really do a good job of disposing of. Plus they are on the glass everywhere, Ill use an algae scrubber to knock them off but within 24 hrs its back to the way it was. I have heard rumors of some saltwater inverts being compatible but nothing specific.

T. tandanus will not tolerate brackish waters, they are a freshwater fish. The only catfish that you will be able to use will be Arius graffei and Arius berneyi. They look the same, grow to the same size, just the bernyi is harder to find and cost 2 - 3 times more then a graffei.

I have never had any problems with my graffei and berneyi and i have had them for a year now. In 12 months they have grown form 1 inch to 8 inches.
