Catfish with centrals

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I kept a Raphael catfish with some aggro fish RD, Trimac ect but you have to give them a place to go where others cant follow. I'm not a catfish expert so IDK but that was my experiance. I sill have a couple but with mellow SAs now.

My experience with raphaels is that once you put them in the tank, you rarely see them. I've kept pictus cats with NW cichlids in the past with decent success, although I don't think they would stand up to a full grown amphilophus.

I'm currently keeping a synodontis eupterus in my 180 with paratheraps species. They don't seem to mind it at all. If and when they breed, the syno may need to be relocated.

Well my issue is finding middle ground. Most of the smaller cats will eventually be killed, and most of the larger cats will eventually kill my amphs. Tough as they may be, they're no match for a 20 lb channel cat. I have raphaels in my community tank and I see them all the time, but I rarely look at the community when it's not feeding time. But don't raphaels have spines that will hurt the Midas if they go for the kill? I heard raphaels can secrete a toxin?

I guess what I'm looking for us a cat that reaches around 12", and has some movement. I'm not worried about them having hiding spots, as catfish can get themselves into spots that an amph never could, I can supply rock work for them.

A large syno might work. They won't hit 12'' but my eruptus is in with a frontosa who constantly beats on it and never shows a scratch.

A sun cat is in the size range may a little bigger but not a giant.
