catfish with SA cichlids?

I HAD A PIM BEFORE AND HE WAS THE SAME LENGTH AS HIS WHISKERS.....2FT! THESE THINGS GET HUGE. VERY PEACEFUL BUT BIG.THE 180 I HAD HIM IN WAS TOO SMALL SO I GAVE HIM TO A FRIEND WITH A 300G.

I think you may have had a different kind of pim. The marbles will get over 2 feet. From what I can tell the four lines top out at about 12"

I think you should also consider Synodontis Petricola. They stay small (around 5" full grown I think), are active, omnivores, fairly peaceful and look really nice. They are recommended for Cichlid setups and in the wild, they live with Cichlids in Lake Tanganyika. They actually need mouth-brooding Cichlids in order to breed. I just ordered a group of 10 to grow out with my Istlanum (they both like hard, alkaline water).

I like my pictus. They are pretty active and don't hide.
