Pimelodus Pictus

Does best in schools. They don't get much more than 3-4 inches. Sometimes they will get bigger than that in very large tanks but 4 inches is pretty standard.

Very active. Seemingly always on the move. Small fish like Cardinal tetras, guppies and mosquito fish will be picked off pretty quickly when the light goes out...

thay get biger than 3-4" its just taks time

had my 2 for over a year now and the biggest is 4 inches and hasn't grown much since i got them going buy couple more good active catfish that doesnt get too big at around 5" hth

I've been doing this for 25 years. And outside of Shedd Aquarium in Chicago, I've never seen one bigger than 4 inches (standard length which excludes the Caudal Fin)

I think some people generally get Pictus confused with other pimelodae such as blochii etc hence the variation in expected growth. I do recommend keeping pictus in groups rather than singularly also.

Hate to break it to you but they get as big as 6" in Home Aquaria, I actually have seen(personally seen this) them as large as 7 1/2" there are a few 4 1/2" ones for sale at an LFS around the corner from me and all of mine which are fairly young are around the 3 -4 " range right now... it takes a few years to get them past that point however so don't expect to see them shoot up to 7" then stop, as with all Catfish they grow their whole lives and will have some age on them to get to the larger sizes (I can't beleive I'm saying a 7" fish and larger sizes in the same sentence)

I'd have to see that to believe it. I've just never seen it. 7 inches seems really high...
