If you acclimated it and let it get used to the temperature in a bag, you should be fine.

I would like to interject that normally their are some law concerns, I'm not sure of your state but it is generally advised not to return a fish back to it's native habitat after you've acclimated it to aquarium life. There are a lot of people here online that keep native species, and I myself am a member of NANFA, but I wouldn't advise keeping a catfish found locally, assuming it's of the larger variety, without knowing what you are in for.

Where did he say anything about releasing it back into the wild?
All I got out of it is he was wondering if it could survive the higher temperatures of his aquarium vs the cooler temperatures of the lake, maybe I misunderstood tho

Is legal to take undersized gamefish home? I would check on your state fishing regulations to see if it is legal to do.

if i caught a catfish at the lake would it survive in my tank if the water is warmer?

My experience, I started early in the ear with stocking my fish, I did it too soon, had a lot of issues, even with acclimating them. As it got hotter, I had better luck. I know its summer now so it doesnt really matter now but for future reference. I bought a flathead from a member here last month and he is doing great. I also have two bullheads and a channel with no issues.

No, you didnt misunderstand him, I was wondering the same thing too, OP asks one question, then a totally unrelated answer from someone else. Just answer his questions folks, dont worry about the rest.

Yeah dont worry about the rest and look at what happened to Minnow Magnet from California, he got huge fines for keeping undersized leopard shark. I'm just asking if it is legal to take undersized gamefish home for aquarium purposes.

+1 just answer his question, if someone wants to preach about an unrelated topic then the should make their own thread about it. MN rebel if your just wondering if it is legal why don't you research it or make a thread and ask. If you find out it is illegal then let him know but theres no need to bog threads down with this kinda stuff unless you know
