catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It should be fine at your tank temperature as long as it isnt extremely high. I would be careful though because some catfish species get very, very large

Most cats acclimate just fine, I have acclimated and kept bullheads on multiple occasions. great thing about the cats, they usually take to prepared foods easily too. If your worried, I would check your tank temp and the local waters temp. when my temps are far apart I usually place the fish in an in between stage. for me, my house was perfectly between the temps of the local waters and my tank waters( the point is a slow acclimation)

MN Rebel, it should be legal as long as there are not any minimum size requirements and/or species restrictions -catfish are fair game in most states

Just let everybody know that I works for DNR Fisheries from now so please excuse me but I have a right to question everyone at anytime.

Only if you are in his state other then that you have to pass the inquest onto someone else. For that states online investigation group to follow up on. I make part of my living working for the police in the computer field. Only top federal CIA,FBI things like that are USA wide.

Like I said, checking on your fishing regulations are very important. Otherwise the worst thing is getting a huge fine from a game warden and revoked your fishing licenses if being caught by have an undersized gamefish species or use illegal methods to take a gamefish.

I know we come here to help one another but after a while it becomes like babysitting. When you start to see several folks state the same thing over, and over and over it, its get obsessive. The rules and regulations are at the top of this forum. If they fail to read that or anywhere else, thats there problem. They get in trouble in local DNR, then again thats there problem. Its not you getting in trouble, you're not getting fined, etc. You can tell that person 100 times its illegal, etc. but that doesnt mean its going to stop them.

Anyways, most of the time, first time offenders get a slap on the wrist, not a HUGE fine or whatever. Its a case by case basis. Some guy in KY I think had a snakehead in his tank, thats a fish not even native to the US and all he recevied was a $250 fine and fish confiscated, thats not a HUGE fine by any means. If you are a repeat offender, have possibly an endangered species in your tank, threated species, or any other special item then you MIGHT get a nice size fine.

If we just worry about ourselves, instead of what others are doing, this would be a much better place. I dont see folks telling everyone in the buy sell trade area which goes on all day long, that you need to check your local laws to see if that fish in banned in your state, so it shouldnt be done here either. (Yes I know there is a person once in a blue moon that does that but nothing like what goes on in here)

I'm not tryin to be rude or anything, just like this place to be cleaned up a bit of useless clutter. We dont know one way or the other if the OP knows the rules or not so I dont see the point of telling the OP that he needs to do this and that, when he may already know it. Then he comes to his post hoping for an answer and see something else. Anyways...back on topic :)

well said, Thank you masterB
