Catfishing with shrimp?

set yourself up a little trot line, maybe 5 or 6 hooks, tie it off on the bank, leave it overnight

Shrimp is okay but doesnt have a lot of scent. Because of current a stink bait(not the dough) would work. Just buy a tub and some stink bait holders. You dont even need to touch it. Just get a stick and push the hook and sponge in. Its oily so makes a long scent trail.

For what turtles? Never knew people fished that way? That even legal? Like ewurm said if the fish cops saw that they would wait in their car for your return and give you a nice seasons greeting here.

I agree with the chicken gizzards, and the more you can make it stink the better, sun all day and fish in the evening. Cats love things that stink and are on the move for food that time of day, you should have more success if your in the right location.

I use live bait for catfish, anythime I use shrimp all I catch are big 15+ pound drum.

Legal in some states, most state...it's illegal including the state I'm in. That's usually poacher style for cat fishing, they basically have all those hooks onto a thick line about 100lbs test braid (doesn't have to be braid) or 50lbs+ mono and tie it low on the ground where its hard to see. They usually tie to a tree root and at night the cat will come onto shore to grab the bait and once they jerk back into the water quick due to a fact the water is so shallow. They'll hook themselves real good, next morning poachers come and voila, full of catfish.
