would a hybrid stay smaller than a rtc? anyways, i might set up a pool type pond thing. itd be great for it, i can get a vacuum for it, skimmer, and filter for cheap. i was gonna setup another one for koi toonecrocanis;2725559; said:10 x 4 is pretty much a bare minimum, with proper filtration, water changes, and feedings for healthy growth so that your catfish can meet it's true potential you might have to upgrade eventually, but it'll be many years down the road. 10 x 4 would last you for a long time. I'd try to go a bit taller than 2' though. Maybe at least 2.5'. That way your catfish can greet you at the top of the tank for lovin, and treats. 3' would be even better. There's really no need for anything taller than 3' unless it's just your preference. My tank I'm building is 3.5' tall, but after you subtract the thickness of the walls it's actually right at 3' 1" tall.
dont juru's get up to 4 feet as well? and ive read that tigs get up 3 feet, but they are alot more sedentary in behavior. ill just have to see what my space and budget allows. cant you keep a tig and juru together?necrocanis;2725652; said:My hybrid is 38" after 4 years. I think he's still got some growth in him once I put him in the 4000 we'll see. Pools are great for short term, but your best bet if you're going that route would just be to build a pond to fit your space needs, while giving the fish enough room to thrive! I hear a lot of people that try to stunt their cats (not that you ever would) just because they want to keep them smaller. I pretty much let my catfish dictate how large they will get. I change the water when it's bad, and I feed hearty meaty foods to promote maximum growth of my fish. A 8x4 will last for many years if not for life. I don't think you'd have to worry too much, but if you start adding extra fish to the equation then you run into problems. Then like me you'll find your self building a massive tank with plans for other massive tanks in the future lol. Good luck with it. Just make sure you have a sound plan, and you'll do fine. Most people are very creative in a pinch. If you have any doubts about keeping a rtc or hybrid for life, then a great alternative is marble catfish, tig, jur, limas, and the list goes on. Those all grow up to be very impressive larger catfish that would live in that tank for life! Best part is you could have many other fish in with them also.
well u could keep 1 for about 5 years i would say i am going 2 try it but a 6ft by 4ft wode by 2-3ft highnitrofish1;2722034; said:the footprint is 8x4, it is 2feet tall.
