hello again! I have ordered 2 dwarf giraffe cats from wet spot. Is is N. Macrostoma and the other is P. Monkei. Just wondering what good tank size would be and if they will both get along? Will get pics when they are in, which is hopefully Friday.
I have both species, all from Wetspot since August of last year. They are all around 4" now having grown about an inch in that time. Of all the parauchenoglanis I've kept the p. monkei seem to be the smallest yet or if not, the slowest growing and I suspect either species won't likely exceed 6". Mine, a mix of 3 p. monkei and 2 n. macrostoma, are in a 60G tank with lots of driftwood hiding places and I rarely see any of them as they're very nocturnal and only come out to feed in the dark. As far as I can tell both species seem to get along but I can't say for sure. There are enough hiding places for them to choose their own niche in the tank theoretically reducing conflict over territory. Parauchenoglanis species seem to be sensitive to high PH and high temp's so I keep mine at a PH of 6.5 and temp's around 74 degrees. I feed them with flakes, 3 Kinds of Hikari pellets, frozen blood worms and frozen brine shrimp. Hope this helps...
Awesome. I have a jaguar cat, 2 false jags, a spotted Raphael, and I think 8 Cory in a 75. Other inhabitants Are a EBJD, parrot fish, 3 red hooks, 3 goirami, can’t remeber exact name, and a peacock eel, and the new eel I wanna say dayi but looks like TT. I’ll find that out soon. My question is do you think they will all be happy in a 125? I was wanting to add a small school of Congo’s as well
Well I don't have much experience with the mix of fish you keep nor able to determine the behavior or sizes of each to make any judgement there. A larger tank is always better in any case and better to extend territory for fish that will claim it like many catfishes will do. All I can say is both species of dwarf giraffe cats you are getting are generally not aggressive toward other tank mates with the possible exception of territorial disputes. Community tanks are always an interesting venture and a constantly ongoing experiment but these cats have a decent potential to get along with others I would think. Mine are in with a dozen or so guppies, some kind of calvus cichlid, a rio something tetra, an L234 pleco and a dwarf gourami that recently showed up in a bag of feeder goldfish. They all get along except when the larger pleco will sometimes displace one of the d. cats when it wants their driftwood spot. Best of luck in any case...
