I know that the beloved RTC eats anything and everything. I know that a varied diet is the best diet. I went fishing today and caught several fish out at sea. I cut them to make fillets. I also caught numerous clams and other mollusks and even a few cephalopods. Everything was cut into nice chunks and thoroughly rinsed in freshwater, which means I gutted the clams and oysters and cut the flesh into nice bits. My family has eaten the catch of the day plenty of times without any ailments. Bottom line: Is this fresh seafood safe to feed? I would think so.

I'd say yes. He'd be eating fresh-caught in the wild, obviously. I feed my RTC shrimp that we buy from the guys on the roadside with coolers. (I live in a coastal area, it's not like I live in South Dakota and they're on the roadside, or anything.) It's the only way I can get them with the heads on. I've never had any problem.

feed it to him

It should be ok. I have allways fed seafood to my freshwater fish. I believe that it is safer to feed Saltwater animals to Freshwater fish because most of the possible parasites and the like would be from saltwater also and therefore should not survive Freshwater. If you live near a large grocery store talk to the manager of the meat department as I buy expired seafood from them at a rediculously reduced rate.

One more question. I know that RTCs in the wild have crustaceans in their diet but can I fed my RTC small crabs? I am hesitant to feed him small whole crabs because I am not sure if he can digest it or if the crab can puncture his colon or stomach.
