Today I caught two burrowing wolf spiders in my local creek. One was a male the other is a female. I tried to mate them earlier today, which they did. But the male at the end got eaten:(.

Here are some photo's!

I didn't think this fat(well fed, guessing) wolf spider would eat a male almost her size! Uh well, its the circle of life.

Females of many spider species eat the male after mating regardless of how well-fed they are.

So not true. I've had female daring jumping spiders leave the male alone after mating. I also had a female brown widow that never ate her male. Left him alone.

One of my friend had several grass funnel web spiders and bred them. It was the opposite, the male ended up eating the female.

You never know if the female will eat or not eat their mate. It's a hit or run.

I do agree that 'some' species will snack on a male, but in my case only burrowing wolf spiders eat their mates. I've actually seen black widow females let the males go, which is rare but easily possible.

nice! she loves that pose, doesn't she?
I myself love various species of jumping spiders. Even though the majority of species around here are smaller, they will never cease to amaze me. Just today I found one of the rarer metallic gold ones, of which I usually only find a few a season. I wish we had some decent sized wolf spiders around here! Oh well, I try my hand at keeping near anything I can get my hands on (much to my parents' dismay), including black widows, nasty tarantulas i've found in our yard, and many other not-so-friendly species. I've also spent many a happy our feeding crickets, flies and other invertebrates to specific spiders around the neighborhood. My favorite to feed would have to be the adult female black widows. They're just so gorgeous!!!
