Yes siphon that crap out. It'll just make your tank dirty. I'd suggest using tank water and shaking your mech sponges in the water. It sounds like your filter just needs a cleaning.

I did that & my tank water cleared up much better than before..
Next time I'll remember to siphon those crap when I clean my mech filters..

i had cloudy tank once. i was horrible. chalky white like fog. i used FLUVAL CLEARMAX and liquid particle catcher, ACCU CLEAR (i think), l did quarter water changes twice a week. not sure why it happened. the only thing i could think is i went OTT on the water conditioner. thats the only thing i had done. never had the problem since.

btw NEVER use water clarifiers, they usually never work or make the problem worse!

sorted my tank out a treat
