Howdy,

If you read about another Northeast Blackout in the news, it might be me turning on my filtration: I installed a second Eheim 2262. :naughty: Did I need the extra biofiltration? I'd say no. More flow? Nah. But my pirayas eat so much fillet that I wanted a second intake to get detritus picked up - now I'll never have to gravel-vac again...ever.

Before: My problem was accumulation of detritus on the planted side of the tank opposite from the intake of my first 2262. Obviously, this cannot be addressed with a single filter. I installed a powerhead for some time, but at the end, I always had to vacuum the crap out.

Therefore, I welcomed its twin brother

I used my Dremel to cut slots into an extra intake tubing part. The slots will spread intake flow evenly along the side, and prevent clogging of the entire intake if a section of the tube is covered with foliage.

Customized intake, to address detritus issue in planted section of the tank

Filled him with 5L EhfiMech

2L EhfiFix

in goes the media bag

And fill with 8L EhfiLav

Cover with some floss

Before:
(I just sold a bunch of plants, normally the grass (Sagittaria) goes all the way to the front glass pane)

After: Intake and outlet installed

I couldn't be any happier with the tank right now

damn thats sick. how are those canisiters compared to fx5's?

Nice job! Those big Eheims are addicting, aren't they. I've got a 2262 & a 2260 on my 220G and just love 'em.

I bought 2 more 2260's off EBay for a future 125G I haven't had time to set up yet. Darn yard work is taking up too much of my time right now.

Nice and clean! Good job! Where did you order the 2262? I have a 2050 and want to upgrade.

No. That's a pre-filter. I do not want a prefilter, I want all the crap to go into my canister and decompose there :D My custom intake is more like a prolonged intake that sucks detritus along the entire depth of my tank
Besides, that's for 12/16 mm hoses (fits Eheim 2211/2213). The 2262 has a 25/34mm intake

Sweet Action, I had a similar setup with my XP canisters on my old 75g. Worked great, I just prefer sumps now. :)

In theory, sumps aren't the best for a planted tank ... got plants???

flow is about the same between the two (~900 gph), but:
- media capacity 2262: 4.8 gal
- media capacity FX5: 1.5 gal :thumbsdow
Besides, you will find many more threads here on malfunctioning FX5 than Eheims ... they've just not been around long enough to be reliable, have teething issues. Eheim Classics have been around forever, very simple design. My 2211 has been in operation 24/7 for 19 years ... I trust what I have had good experience with.

Big Al's. They price-match and beat the competition by 5%. Just call them and tell them where you found it cheaper online :D

That tank still looks sweet my friend!I'll have to snap some shots to show you the main planted tank you helped create. It looks freakin' awesome!!!
What type of plant is that -that has jaggedy long stalks like grass? It sorta looks like java but not really???
