Sorry for your loss :(

The FX5 switches off for 1 minute every 24 hours to purge air etc, my guess would be that he swam into it during that 60 second down time. My black shark knocked the inlet strainer off my FX5 and my 6 inch albion black shark got sucked in and killed :(
Exactly what I thought.
What probably happened it that he swam in on the left during the off time, and as the water current flowing out the right formed a suction, he then got thrown through. The resulting pressure probably killed him, along with the abdominal stress.

That really sucks man :( he was a nice looking eel. I love mine, good thing I only have a wet/dry on his tank.

That's a damn shame. Thanks for taking the time to take and post pics, must have been a real panic moment when you saw him like that. Maybe we all need to take heed and put some kind of grill on ALL our intakes and outlets....
Did that not cause a major flow problem with your filter by the way? I would have thought that with jamming the outlet, he would have caused major backflow pressure in the system..?

sorry for your loss, it is just one of those freak occurences

aw poor guy.. thats just horrible.. sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the nice replies guys.
I guess it did cause backflow issues. I heard alot of splashing. Im not sure if the filter was purging or if it was the eel trying to get free. I also noticed water all under te stand but cant find a leak anywhere.
