caves..

Why don't you superglue your existing rocks together so that they form "caves" but can't topple? Also, put them on the glass and spread the gravel AROUND them so that they won't fall if the Africans try to dig underneath them.

VDAWGS22,
The large size stone has one 3" entrance and three 1/2" holes. All the other size stones just have the entrance hole.

i think easiest way is using 2 rocks (preferably with the same height and flat on top) with slate on top of them. or 3 rocks with the slate on top if you dont want an exit in the back

That's the one. The three holes are on the sides not visible in the picture. I bought two and they both have the three 1/2' holes.

A Frontosa has made the large cave his home. I have four Fronts mixed in with relatively peaceful cichlids. However, the Fronts are shy and like to hang out in a secure place. My smallest Front has claimed a small cave about a year ago.

I ordered two more large caves from Kens Fish for the other two Fronts.

Actually its set up to create one big cave now and has a few peeking holes the fish love it

Slate is also a good choice IMO

I think the OP was looking for caves rather than rock formations. The difference to me is like comparing a car port to a garage.

In each tank I have some fish that swim constantly in open space, some that hang around structures, and others that like to hide in a secure place that has a single opening just big enough for them to enter.

In one tank; two peacocks, Bristlenose Pleco, and a school of clown loaches hide in caves.

Another tank it's the Spotted Raphael and a peacock taking up residence. I also have a Protomelas steveni (Taiwan Reef) who would probably move into a large cave if I had one in the tank. He's always trying to hide from the Aulonocara Firefish.

In the 150G it's the Frontosa and two Bristlenose Plecos who prefer cave life.

I see. Buy pre built caves then. Kens fish
