Just get some rocks and stack them carefully so they don't tip over, or you can use some silicone to glue them together. There is a creek near my house that i get rocks from (free) just make sure you clean them thoroughly. I always washe them in diluted bleach water and boil them several times rinsing them well in between. Hope this helps.

Some rock will leech minerals into your water depending on their composition. You can test by dropping an acid on the surface of the rock (vinegar is acidic so it will work) and looking for little bubbles. If it bubbles, it will leech minerals. As far as clay pots, go with terra cotta, when fired (baked) it becomes chemically inert in water. don't worry about them being glazed, they won't break down/crumble/fall apart. You can find them for cheap just about anywhere, Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Michaels, etc.

thanks thats what i wanted to hear, ive heard of terra cotta pots. i think im going to go get three 6 inch pots and two 5 inch pots and 2 3 or 4 inch pots for my 20 gallon. any idea how much all them pots would cost lol?

I couldn't imagine 6 inch pots being more than 4-5 dollars apiece. I got a large terra cotta strawberry pot from the gardening section at Wal-Mart for 6 bucks.
