Since my other thread on it turned into a nice debate on the quality of captive bred bichirs (specifically the ones cultivated the longest, senegalus) I wanted to start a new one. I wouldn't like it to happen on this one lol and I got the one I had a buddy so this is for the both of them. I've decided to buy pairs for the most part in an attempt to breed them when they get to the proper size. The second one has about a half inch on the other

Old one

They have some great stripes and I'm excited to be growing out some LJs finally, they seemed to be in great health at the LFS (like all the other fish I've had from them are, very good place for everything) no spinal issues, saw them both swimming fine etc. Eating twice a day, pellets (hikari carni, want to try NLS but can't find the proper pellet locally or the motivation to order online) one day, bloodworms the next, live black worms the next, back to pellet. Decided to stop mixing all the food together after someone on here said feeding a mix can make young polys more prone to bloat which is how a couple of my sens have died. So far so good, new one was introduced about a week and a half ago and the old one about 2-3 weeks. My teugs seem to be doing really well ( just about doubled in size in a bit over a month) so hopefully these guys will follow suit

Smallll lol the older one is smaller at about 3 and the bigger one is about 4, they have bigger heads then my teugs but the teugs are longer and wider bodied then them

Do Endli ever breed in aquaria? Or any Poly for that matter
Depends on what you mean by "breed" if they have ever been bred then yes. If you mean if they've ever been bred by a hobbyist then that's probably a yes to. Not sure about endlis but I know ornates have been bred (shopko).

I've never heard of endlis either, but someone's gotta crack the code lol. I've heard of sens dels and I got my first ornate from a guy who bred his pair. Probably only worked because he bought them as a pair and had no other fish in there at all, 125 ga tank, he separated the fry n all that though which I feel is a must as far as I've heard w/ breeding poly. Also going to do more research into the changes of water chemistry from dry to wet season, maybe a lessen WCs and even water level to simulate dry, then slowly adjust the PH for wet season, like introducing more drift wood which happens in the wet season of anywhere. Also read somewhere playing loud thunderstorm and rain noises in the room helps

I don't think it's playing the sounds as much as it is the lighting with the darkness then the frantic flashing and freshwater pouring into the tank

Interesting thanks for the info I have multiples of a few species you listed but I truthfully thought they were one of the types of fish that don't breed in aquariums. I just got two Endli babys about this size a week ago love them already!

Slightly confused, you mean flash lights and let more flow out of a drip system maybe?

Just thought of this, setup a drip-bar (just made that up I think) to simulate the water disruption that rain would make? Then you'd have constant freshwater coming in and simulating rain, you don't think the vibrations of thunder could play a factor? My thinking when I read that was they would be keyed in by the vibrations not so much the sound itself
