My yellow ray female had two pups over night. I've been watching her for the past few months with my male, and we did an ultrasound last week.
It's been a long road. I had a lot of people telling me she wasn't preg, including the vet who did the ultrasound.
My gut was right. Sadly, both were still born. I hadn't seen them yet - I'm supposed to be knee deep in the Everglades all day. But when I get back, I'll post up some pics of them and let you guys know what happend, and what I'm going to change for the next time around. Very little info is out there about their breeding, so it's been a lot of documenting and learning as this process happens.

If anyone happens to know of any published info on this topic, PLEASE post up a link. I've been bugging everyone I know about it.

Male is the darker on in the foreground of the first pic, female is lighter.

CONRATS!!!!

Thats awesome! Sorry they didnt make it though.

Thanks. I'll know more as soon as I can get back to see them in person. I'll post more on this as I learn it.

The upside to today is that I got to spend it in the Everglades looking for American crocs, lemon sharks and scouting for smalltooth sawfish (heard a rumor of some being spotted). Put some pics up in my FL Sharks album and my Croc Work album if anyone is bored and wants to see them.

Well, got to work today and had my first hands on look at the pups. First thoughts right off the bat, both were VERY premature at the time of birth.

Here's the mom with pups from just before her ultrasound:

The stinger resting on my finger, to give you an idea of size (wish I had a clear close up, you can already see the serrated edges of it):

What do vets know anyways?! :D Congrats on getting them to breed!
What type of setup are they in? Is it a multi-species exhibit? What about diet? Sorry about all the questions. Just curious, you must be doing something right! :)

One of our 16 jewel displays. Multi-species... have a group of juvie cottonwicks in there (grunts). Both animals are wild caught. Diet is a rotation of mack, herring, squid, salmon and capelin. Temp running about 75-76, pH 8.2 and with the ability to do water changes from an open line, you know the H2O quality is maintained at near natural levels. lol

Im sure you will be a proud Pappa soon, Ive got my fingers crossed for ya :)
