ccebr's aquarium update - tank setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for all the kind words!

Nice setup, no aggro issues with the female dovii?
She's actually quite placid, doesn't bother with any of the other fish. Only the jag, they fight every so often.

niiiice

no issues between the Freddy and the Jag against the Aro

jags i have seen are calm against non cichlid tankmates but doesn't ur aro get spooked when the two Cichlids go head to head ???
the dovii doesnt bother with the aro, the jag has chased around before, but only for a short time. I'm keeping an eye on that. The aro's pretty brave doesn't get spooked much anymore, and I have often seen it swimming "through" fights to break them up. Little peacekeeper lol.

nice, specially the cameras pixels !. btw what kind of light fixtures are you using, and the bulbs too ?
I'm using a T5 twin light unit, with one daylight bulb and one colour bulb. No reflectors. And the bulbs have probably never been changed - I personally dont see the point if you dont have high demanding plants - Java Fern is hardly demanding lol.

Nice pics ,tank and stock. I would be concerned for the aro though, if the jag and dovii pair up.
Cheers. The aro wouldn't stand a chance I know. Can you suggest any signs I should look out for if they do start to pair up. Part of me is very interested to find out what kind of monster would be produced as a result - what would it look like? Could it be the new Liger? lol

Nice stock and tank. Is there another filter behind the drift wood and plants?
Thanks, there is an inlet and outlet for the other external, which is just hidden behind the plastic plant, not behind the wood, there are just tunnels/caves for the fish to hide out

Stunning Dovii. If only they where all placid
thanks, yeah that would be good. i dont think the females are as aggressive as the males. mine only defends itself from the jag, and got some prominent teeth so the jag usually has scratches/teeth marks on its mouth/snout.

Do your big boys pick on the clown loach?
I actually have 6 of them in there, but no they dont bother with them at all. they'll only pick on other cichlids.

The mix has been done before but the result is pretty bland IMO. As for signs, gravel moving/pit building, body shaking, lip locking, rock cleaning, aggression etc. If they pair up, it will be pretty clear. With no other cichlids in the mix, the chance of them pairing is very high.;)

O right...I've not seen a photo of them two crossed before.
Well he's already made a pit, plus loads of lip locking with the wolf. but she's resisting the charm...for now at least. They aren't the only cichlids in there atm though, there's a gold saum, jewel and a jack dempsey...all about 4/5". They aren't being attacked although i'm keeping an eye on that and do have a spare tank they can be moved to if needed. Only thing is the spare tank's not big enough for the arowana so that might take a beating. The loaches would be fine they have the pile of wood to hide out in, and in fact the other cichlids usually hide out in there too.
That pit he's been working hard on...

I have owned quite a few Dovii male and female never been lucky enough to get even close to a passive one once they hit 8 inches they always go homicidal on their tank mates
