Cement bottom tank? Please help me out.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Probably slate bottom. Like already stated it should have a stainless frame on it. VERY collectable. Smaller ones are easier to find but can be a bit pricey if in pristine shape. If it's a good price and you have some help for carrying it I'd definitely get it. (provided it's slate) If it actually turns out to be concrete, i'd be leary.

My father is running about 60 or so of these (the stainless steel ones) in his fishroom right now. The biggest ones are only 30g. The problem with these is if they sit empty for a while, the caulking dries out and they can leak. Silicone doen't stick to the slate well, but they can be repaired by putting a thin sheet of acrylic over the slate and siliconing it in. My father still has one of his first tanks, the kind with a plain steel frame, and it still holds water and no leaks. It was only empty when he moved. The tank is 50+ years old !!!

I passed on it.

It was 6x1.5x1.7

$200

Tank, iron stand, magnum 350, and heaters. She said there were other buyers waiting, so I'm sure it's already gone.

BTW I passed on it before reading the part about it being VERY collectible. There are just other things I want to save my money for right now.

I am looking for a similar one. My tank's bottom is made of glass and I need to blur the surface so that my fishes don't look down. Cement bottom is also a good idea.

sounds like a quick repair for a broken bottom piece

painting the bottom black would work. (on the outside of the tank). All of my breeding tanks have this.
