as you might ahve read the thread a few days ago im planning a 4foot project, 4x18x16 and i wanted a Uaru as my centerpeice cause it is large peacfeull and great looking.
however im reconsidering as i would love some plants and i heard they completely destroy them.

what other larger eye catching fish that are peacefull and leave plants alone could i have?
tankmates will include kissers, a shoal of larger rainbowfish and some rainbow cichlid/firemouth or ellioti etc

possibly, they are hard to get in the lfs's near me,. the fish dosnt have to be a cichlid, i just want a fish that has that WOW factor and stands out, but without it being aggressive and fine with the set up and tankmates

i would if ididnt have small rainbowfishes =P.
are they an all out predator or woul they live with say 4-6" rainbows, kissers that can be upto 8" and 6" ish cichlids? or would the dat just see them as a buffet

Severum and festivum cichlids, Green Terror etc, But all these fish would eat the smaller fish.

Its kinda hard finding something peaceful and big.

ive kept severums and that before i know they can be aggresive.
the kissing gourami's can fight back and the rainbows would primarily be dithers, so i was going for the less aggresive species of cichlid but i wanted a large centerpiece fish that stands out that could work in there. i chose Uaru cause of their passiveness and activity, but they eat plants... as i said im not looking specificaly for a cichlid, anything will do that fits the need

Kissing gouramis? Your tank will be cramped without even adding another mid dweller. I'd change your kissing gouramis with another fish instead. You still have an option for severums, keyholes or acaras. Sevs are usually mild mannered cichlids. I have a pair which even spawned but no damages happen despite their attempts to guard the eggs from my loaches stalking them around.

larger Black ghost knife?
Consider the other fish being planned. The tank will be ridiculously cramped with either species.
