What are some good dither fish from central america? My jag is a bit lonely and was wondering what I could throw in there to liven up the tank. It's not a very aggressive jag so it might let them live if they are fast.

Looking for Central American fish. Preferably a species found around Lake Managua would be nice.

All I can think of are convicts, but trying to see if I can look for something small and fast along the lines of danios, tetras etc.

I am also having that same problem. I have a male Jag in a 125 and am looking for some dithers to liven up the tank alittle bit. But hes killed everything that I have tried except for a 9 inch ornate bichir.

I dont think scats are central american. You could use other large tetras like buenos ares tetras, but you would need to get big ones. You would use tinfoil barbs or bala sharks if you dont mind having something from asia.

A large Jag will eat giant danios. He might not catch them during the day but when the tank lights go out, so will the danio's.

If you don't mind them not being from CA, Rainbowfish are great dithers. I use them in all of my cichlid tanks and they are large and high bodied enough so that they don't get eaten. They are fast as well. You would have to get larger ones, but they would add a lot of color to your tank :)
