I’ve tried to find any info on some dwarf Central American cichlids but it looks like they don’t exist. I’ve always wanted to keep some dwarf cichlids and if they’re were some from Central America they would be perfect for my tank. Any info would be really appreciated.

Nanoluteus is about the only "dwarf" cichlid from CA that I'm aware of. They stay a bit smaller than the other convict types. Not sure I'd call an HRP a dwarf, they can get about as big as any convict type except maybe those cabuya cons. I guess it depends on your definition of dwarf- and even nanoluteus, get larger than the SA dwarfs like rams, etc.
Heres my last HRP at about 5.5"

Biggest nanoluteus I've seen was a good bit smaller. Maybe there are some that have gotten above 5", would be interested to see if anyone has pics.

Nanoluteus is about the most dwarf of the Central American dwarfs (and there really are only a few.
Here are a few shots of the ones I had, and a few other dwarf (or semi) dwarf species
These Central Americans do well i semi hard to very hard, high pH water

There is also Rheoheros (formerly Theraps) coeruleus which rarely get to 5” if I’m not mistaken, but they will appreciate heavy flow since they are rheophilic cichlids.

Technically these are North American because they’re found in Mexico, but most of the Mexican cichlids get lumped in with Central Americans.
