I am trying to work out the species name of these two fish. Hopefully someone can help me out..

first one looks like a female viega argentea and the 2nd looks to be some type of hybrid

Yea the first one looks like a viega argentea, but no ideas on the second one. They both look nice anyway.

first is defintly vieja aregentea, second is most likely a Caquetaia as previosly stated, i'd check the stickied thread here for for i'd purposses...

Yes, definitely Vieja argentea and Caquetaia kraussi.

Caquetaia are not "South American Basketmouths", though. The true Basketmouths are Chaetobranchopsis.

hercrenvie I just learned something new then. I always thought they were, cool.

Fishdance I hope the link made it easier to id. Great fish. It looks like the argentea has lateral line erosin or something wrong with is. Not sure though just looks wierd to me.
