I am VERY tempted. Although it would be easier for me to have it shipped directly here rather than to you and drive to get them (it's a bit of a haul).

Connor -- Yes and no ... shipping to you is going to run $45 for 2 day, or $60 for airport to airport. im not sure how much gas would run you to get up here
If you went with us, it looks like the $60 shipping will be split at least 3 ways (4 with you)

Everyone else -- this order IS happening, most of the fish are already paid for (each person pays him separately via paypal, and then shipping will be paid when you pick them up) and they will be coming for sure on Monday August 8th in the afternoon.
They can be picked up in east columbus that afternoon
(or anytime after that. they can swim around in my tanks if you need a few hours, or a few days)

ok so i dont know much about stergeon, but that diamond one is bad a**! how long do you think you can keep them in your pond?

good luck with the sturgens man. we got some siberians at the store last week and they had red fins. Idk where ur getting them from but im in florida and thats the same prcice we were selling them for.

thanks klee, this is a picture of my inspiration !!!

I dont really know what to expect ... the ones ive kept in my aquariums in the past went from 2" to 14" in about a year
I plan to put these guys in tanks, and make sure they are healthy and try to get them hand feeding. If i can get them to eat from my hand, that will make feeding them in the pond a lot easier, so all the koi dont gobble it up before they get any. I plan on putting them in the pond as soon as the ice breaks which is usually march.
Some of the websites im seeing say sturgeon should "quickly hit 2-3' in a backyard pond" so im thinking if i can get them to 8-10" and then into the pond by march, then they will really grow and hopefully hit 22-26" by the end of next summer. And as for growth rate past that point, there just isnt much information out there that ive found. So I guess we will see. There are very few people in the US keeping them, and Ive tried contacting several UK/Euro keepers, without much luck :-/
I am hoping I can house them in my current koi pond until about 36-38" ... but no idea on a timetable for that size.
By then, hopefully I will have a new residence with a permanent pond (i'd really like to do something similar to what the guy has out at Reef Systems in New Albany) and they can live there their entire life. If they ever hit 8'+ I posted before that I have access to a large private lake in NW ohio they can be transferred to

retailcatfreak-- Thanks! And i hope your stores fish make it through ok.
The guy we are buying from has a stellar reputation, and i know some people who have dealt with him before. It seems like some of the "farms" that breed them in florida and supply the US hobby have the same problems as with their aquarium fish (some bad, some good, a few great)
The guy we are dealing with has them on a Research Permit, and they are imported directly to him from the wild or through high quality research/ breeding facilities overseas, so i am expecting pretty high quality fish :headbang2:headbang2

wow...nice! You got me thinking about it lol. Whats the smallest size tank you would put them in until next season?

IME they grow about 1" a month in tanks

At one point I had a siberian who died after a few months (my mistake), and the last time I had 2 sterlets, -- I started them at 2" in a 29, at 4 1/2" I moved them to a 90, and at 8" I moved them into a 150. They were the only fish in any of the tanks, and 14-16 months after I got them they were 14-15" .. They were outgrowing my tank and i didnt have the pond then, so I had to donate them to a friend

Thats at room temp water 68-72, high O2 levels from bubbler and low water levels for HOBs waterfall into tank, and feeding mainly on frozen bloodworms (which may account for slightly slower growth)

You're more than welcome to move them to my place at any time ;)
